Hobbies: Watching the San Diego Chargers and SD Padres Sportscard collecting Fantasy baseball and football Poker playing basketball and volleyball

I have been collecting sportscards for a little over 20 years. My Grandfather got me started when he used to walk me to Kmart every week and bought me some 1988 baseball packs. Back then, each pack contained a bubble gum and costs 50 cents. There were only a handful of brands such as Topps, Donruss, and Fleer. Opening packs today is just as fun as it was back in the days but at times I do get nostalgic and miss the days when I had the same chance as everybody of pulling the best rookie card of a player for only 50 cents. Today the hobby has gotten so expensive due to the competition, various brands, technology, short prints, autographed and jersey cards, that it is more of a business for a lot of people and it has been compared to gambling by many. The internet world has changed the face of the hobby as it has created conveniences such as researching, buying, and trading online in the comforts of your own home but has many drawbacks as well like no face-to-face contact when buying or trading, extinction of card shops, less card shows, and worse of all- scammers trying to take advantage of others. I'm still in the hobby because it's in my blood now and I'm a huge sports fanatic. It allows me to follow certain stars more than if I didn't collect them. You know that feeling. My favorite teams will always be the San Diego Chargers and San Diego Padres since I grew up in San Diego. I don't really have a favorite basketball team but decided recently to collect Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls cards since Larry Bird was one of my favorite players growing up and MJ is definitely the best player I have ever seen. I am currently teaching 3rd grade in South Central LA but plan on moving back to San Diego in a year or two where all of my families and friends are at. Teaching is a brutal profession, especially when you have to deal with the problems these kids from South Central LA have at home and at school. Collecting sportscards is an outlet from my work but I do have a strong passion for both regardless of the outcome. Enough of the babbling, here is what I collect: - any San Diego Chargers cards - any San Diego Padres cards (especially Adrian Gonzalez and Tony Gwynn) - any Boston Celtics cards - any Chicago Bulls cards - any Asian baseball, football, or basketball players - Cal, USC, UCLA, Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan cards
