Steinert 1922-1968 Gertrude Houston Steinert 1924-1996 Forty years ago on Main Street Portland, Connecticut, my father filmed the annual ceremony that honored his sacrifice in WW II while serving in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi. Featured in the parade are: William J. Ackerman Resident State Trooper from Colchester Barracks. Charles "Buddy" Johnson PHS '62 driving the white Bonneville - future policeman Portland Highlanders Marching Band under the direction of Eric Osterling. Majorettes and Marie Leroy Keane dance teacher. Her studio was on the third floor of a house at the corner of Freestone Ave and Main St. A plaque honors her memory. Joe Bransfield driving the pony cart. Soldiers from the Nike site. Missles were targeted to shoot down ICBM's coming over the north pole from Russia and bound for New York. Volunteer Firemen and the drill team (with the red "John Wayne" shirts). Boy Scouts Troop 6 with Scout Erik Steinert now retired and living in Belmont Shore, CA
