A pumpjack behind a house in the Montebello oilfield, California. The specific plan for the Montebello Hills calls for residential development along with open space preservation. According to the developer's website, the oilfield will be consolidated to 8 well pads, down from 96 wells today. From the website: "[T]he 'grasshopper' pumping units now seen on the site will be removed and replaced with subsurface well equipment that will be enclosed in aesthetically pleasing structures approximately 6-feet high."

Jul 28, 2008 - My aim isn't necessarily to shoot unconventional pumpjacks, but to document the 'disappearing' or 'hidden' oilfields in Southern California. And that means showing how the oil wells are woven into the urban landscape, such as in this video.

Jul 29, 2008 - That is great that you are taking videos and photos of the pumpjacks in California. That is how I started with my photos and videos of oilfields in Texas. Back in the mid '90s, they were dissappearing left and right so I started taking photos of them because they would be gone forever soon. Please post as many videos as you can. I enjoy watching them.
