If the curling motion does not change why would the effect on the bicep change? If only the stress and effect on the forearm increase or decrease depending on the position of the dumbbell, what muscle do you thing is being targeted?

Jul 27, 2008 - i was replying to i think its the same since in hammer curls you will have to lift them up anyways, shock to the muscle means you are going out of the normal routine of things. If you did the same thing everyday you would not get any stronger but if you change your form you "shock" your muscle, getting it out of the norm. the curling motion can have an effect on the bicep....go do some preacher curls you will find them harder to do than normal curls because the type of curl targets the bicep...

And yes I agree, Dumbbell curls and Preacher curls are different and should both be done, I too advocate at least 3 different exercises per muscle being worked. But notice 'JCtheunknown' question above had to do with comparing different variety of Dumbbell curls.
