On 31 March 2007, more than 2 million Sydney residents turned of their lights and appliances between 7.30pm - 8.30pm for Earth Hour. The event generated enthusiastic support and participation, reflecting Sydney's commitment to reducing global warming. Earth Hour is the launch of the World Wildlife Fund and the Sydney Morning Herald's 12 month campaign which aims to reduce Sydney's greenhouse emissions by 5% in 2007.

Mar 30, 2008 - Global warming is caused by the wobble in the earths axis of rotation and solar flare activity. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to have their head examined. Why don't all the people on one side of the planet jump up in the air while the people on the other side jump on the ground and maybe we can adjust the wobble back to where it belongs. That makes a whole more lot sense to me. Your theory makes as much sense as blaming human production of methane gas for global warming.

Mar 30, 2008 - i guess thats just me though. im not saying your wrong just i dont believe for me there arent alot of scientific facts to prove it

Mar 30, 2008 - ok...you like to just state some of the fact, you are forgeting about the curents that flow in the ocean, the air masses . what about the El Ninio and El Ninia effect ? if you want facts, sreach more and more, ask questions but don't pretend like you'd know rycboy...better care than ignore . even if the light thing is exagerated-i agree..it is SYMBOLIC do you know the meaning of this word ?! just checking
AlecsanderMachedon Says:
Mar 30, 2008 - How about the ocean currents, the air fronts, the Ozone layer, you put it all on a wabble thing ? Very smart and documented. You ignore the El Ninio and El Ninia . Gotta admit to one thing this lights off is exagerated but have you ever heard of SYMBOLIC? Maybe you just don't know the meaning of the word . Read, ask and dig up information before you make some statements rycboy

Mar 30, 2008 - Did you remember summer 2005? Hurricane Katrina! Just because it's cold doesn't mean global warming went away. The ice is STILL melting. Islands are STILL drowning. Our world isn't perfect, with poverty and all... but trying to save and care for our planet, could make it at least a little better. Even if Earth Hour is over or not, we can still contribute.

Mar 31, 2008 - Resting on the environment, did all countries participate in this latest event? As it stands now, current greenhouse gas agreements allow China, India, and Mexico special exemptions for toxic waste, while the rest of the western world must make drastic cuts?? Dirty air is dirty air!!! What a fluke? Most of our jobs are going to the aforementioned countries!! Why, slack environmental standards allow companies to transfer work there at the expense of Canada and USA!!

Mar 31, 2008 - they should do this more often, i actually enjoyed my earth hour, spend time with the family for an hour isn't so bad.

Apr 2, 2008 - i hope and wish that our future generations become more and more educated with these problems so we can't prevent our beautiful planet from horrible outcomes. as a planet we should overcome these environmental problems and overcome war and live in peace. sounds impossible but you never know
KamiKaziChicken Says:
Apr 2, 2008 - You take an extremely complex topic and make it sound like you're the king of it. Of course wobble in the axis and solar flare have some effects, but there's no solid proof that increasing greenhouse gases increase warming. Hell, without them this planet would be much much cooler. Maybe you should have your head examined too.
kstar12441 Says:
Apr 3, 2008 - its a proven fact that all of the pollution going on on the earth right now is only increasing the rate of global warming by .01% in the time of the dinosaurs they were in a normal stage. techincally were still in an ice age now. meaning were due to have global warming now. it's part of nature. it's what this planet was intended to do
clscwi Says:
Apr 3, 2008 - Global Warming is a theary not a factualy proven envent in time so why do you think electrical energy consumption is a direct link to something that has not been proven yet?? ps "problems so we can't prevent our beautiful planet ..."

Apr 5, 2008 - All these "solutions" are just feel-good measures for the feeble minds. "Let's all shut the lights off for an hour and light candles!" Yeah, that will make us feel like we are "making a difference". What a joke. This is the same mass mentality that caused human sacrifice in our history when the crops failed, long droughts happened, floods covered the land, or epidemics killed the masses. Let's kill a virgin and save the planet.....

Apr 9, 2008 - i personnaly feel as though that thre should be an earth hour every couple of months. It may not seem like much but it would greatly help.
sweetharleyrider Says:
Apr 10, 2008 - hey treehuggers!more pollution comes from candles and torches than lights!just turn off all your lights.etc and leave us all alone if u don't know what you are talking about!greenpeace says farming should be stopped because it creates greenhouse gases!i'd be more worried that there will be no more fish to eat from the oceans in 40 years!a worldwide carbon tax on everyone will give gov'ts more control of the masses-thats what its really all about!think about it ok?too many people must die for u!
truthisIamnot Says:
Apr 14, 2008 - For this to become truly effective, to become part of "pop" culture. We need to start doing this on a monthly basis or at least several times a year. It is a feel good event as mentioned by an earlier poster. All true revolutions start as a feel good event. This is nothing like sacrificing a virgin though, I think that was a pretty pathetic attempt at an analogy......
truthisIamnot Says:
Apr 14, 2008 - ......This event itself wont be the saving of the enviro. and resources but a trigger event& reminder of how we need to continue to change our habits for the survival of future generations.
