In 1948 there was one subway line - in 2008, there are about 14 subway lines, and they have built other surface lines as well, and also improved the existing surface lines with extra places for express trains to pass, etc. BUT, there are 30,000,000 people in the Tokyo area, so the trains have to carry a lot of people. Also the video was taken in 1991, and those are NOT police. (I took the video - I know!) - LHS

I took a new one of the same spot on the same platform at the same time at the same station a couple of months ago. See "Less Crowded in 2008" for a current view. It's still crowded and there's a little pushing, but not nearly as much as in 1991. - LHS

Since it's an express train, the next train will get to Ikebukuro (the terminal stop) about ten minutes later (remember that everyone is in a hurry).
