Good flying team story after one night in hotel at "Le Touquet" cote d'opale Paris plage, all of us stuck under the rain, and low visibility, waiting for weather improvement with aircrafts covered on airport apron parking of airport, the spitfire MK19 from Dijon Darois and the Mustang P51 and Curtiss P40 from Amicale Jean Baptiste Salis on La Ferte Alais, Cerny airlield, expecting blue sky while drinking coffee.... for good weather conditions to continue the fly over the channel to Dover cliff then Duxford airstrip for the yearly vintage aircraft warbird airshow meeting flying legends.. The Fighter Collection operates, rebuilds and maintains Europe's largest collection of airworthy WWII aircraft and is based at Duxford Airfield, in the UK. Run by a professional team of engineers and pilots for both airshow and film work, the aircraft fly all over Europe during the summer months to attend airshows from Austria to Switzerland. The fleet comprises of aircraft from the UK, USA, Germany, Russia and Italy - and the collection is constantly expanding as new aeroplanes are acquired. The TFC is one of the premier collections of warbirds in Europe. Based in Duxford's Hanger 2 (and parts of hanger 3), The Fighter Collection is owned by Stephen Grey, whose intention it was to own an example of every allied fighter type flown in WWII. The channel has been a key natural defence for Britain, allowing the nation to intervene but rarely be dangerously threatened in European conflicts, mostly notable in the fight against Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars, and Nazi Germany during the World War II. Nevertheless, the channel has been the scene of many invasions and attempted invasions, including the Roman conquest of Britain, the Norman Conquest in 1066, the Spanish Armada in 1588, and the Normandy landings in 1944. The channel has been the scene of many naval battles, including the Battle of Goodwin Sands (1652), the Battle of Portland ( 1653), the Battle of La Hougue (1692) and the engagement between USS Kearsarge and CSS Alabama (1864). At times the channel has served as a link joining shared cultures and political structures, from pre-Roman Celtic society, the Roman culture, and the foundation of Brittany by settlers from Great Britain, to the Anglo-Norman state.
