Via ferrata is an Italian term for "iron road", the first iron roads were made in WWI to get soldiers to places no accessible by ordinary roads. Now the most difficult via ferratas are still found in Italy, others are also found in France, Switzerland, Austria and a few in Belgium and Sweden. The basic idea of a via ferrata is that you climb up steep cliffs and mountains, helped by standard climbing equipment and "iron" bars and footsteps to make you help climbing up. This via ferrata is in the french-speaking part of the Swiss province Valais (Wallis in German). The second part of the route is ranked "Tres Difficile" (Very difficult), but isn't difficult at all unless you have no arm muscles and are very afraid of heights!
