This isn't the actual version I remember central Indiana tv stations using when they had "technical difficulties" back in the 1950's/1960's, BUT I do remember this music being played. I pieced this together using Pinnacle Studio 10. If by any chance any of you know the name of this song, could you please let me know? The picture I remember best is a a stick figure type person and a broken wire with a lightning bolt shooting from it. It was always so frustrating to be in the middle of watching something really exciting, then losing the picture altogether and something like this would come on. They must have had an album (LP) stashed away somewhere around each television station that said "play this during technical difficulties." The stations played this kind of music during "techniical difficulties," and at times, the problem would last more than one song. Sometimes the problem would be corrected right away. If any of you remember other such music being played, I'd like to hear what it is/was, and what image they projected.

May 19, 2008 - THANK YOU so much for letting me know! You know how sometimes you'll get a song stuck in your head and it can go on for days? Well, it happens occasionally with this little dittie. Don't ask why...Since you've informed me of the title, I did some further checking and this is the David Rose & His Orchestra version. Once again, thanks!

Jun 26, 2008 - I notice that this is a slide CBS must have used, as their logo is on the camera.

Jun 27, 2008 - I always laughed at these. They would play this comforting lilting music, yet you could imagine behind the scenes people screaming profanities as their careers were perhaps crashing down around them.

Jul 4, 2008 - This music is "Holiday for Strings" and I believe it was performed by the David Rose Orchestra

Jul 5, 2008 - I once heard the (as I called it)"Ah S%#T" music playing with the infamous "Please Stand By" Slide on Channel 5 in NY MANY YEARS Ago (If you watched WNEW - TV 5 in the late 60's and early 70's, you would be "treated" to this at least 3 times/day) and I guess the audio cart was not working, because they used an LP which added insult to injury when the record started to SKIP!!!

Jul 11, 2008 - I remmebr seeing this slide often during the '70s (mostly during "THE CBS LATE MOVIE"), and it usually shown silent.

Jul 19, 2008 - Hey, aat2bd, I hear you! I was a kid in the late 70s to early 80s and I remember those WNEW "please stand bys" well! I think it's because at one point they would play a cheesy muzak/ elevator music version of Eleanor Rigby and other Beatles songs with the same "plucky" strings. I wish someone had a copy of those to throw up here on youtube!
