Najbolj znan in produktiven skladatelj izmed Ipavcev. Spada med najpomembnejše skladatelje romantične glasbe na slovenskem. Bila je vsestranski skladatelj, najbolj je znan po lepih samospevih z ljubezensko in življenjsko tematiko, kakor tudi po narodno zavednih zborovskih skladbah. Izmed instrumentalne glasbe je najbolj znana njegova serenada za godalni orkester, ki je iz štirih stavkov (Allegro moderato, Menuetto, Andante con variazioni in Finale - Allegro). Pomembna so tudi dela za klavir. Samospev je njegova najbolj dovršena glasbena oblika z veliko občutka in umetniške prefinjenosti. Eden najlepših je Menih, ki govori o zapoznelem prebujanju življenja v menihu, ki se mu skomine prebudijo ob pogledu na lipo na samostanskem dvorišču, ki je vsa v cvetju.
