May 16, 2008 - I don't have a circuit posted, but it is all cmos based. A NAND gate oscillator feeds the clock to a 4017 decade counter than feeds the VCO in to a 4099 PLL. I put range switches (extra resister) and a step/on-off switch. I also put in a momentary reset switch that start the sequencer over and a rotary switch that sets the sequence length. I used the same design to create a drum sequencer, each step feeds a bank of 4 switche s so that each step can be sent to trigger different drum sounds.
