Based on "Who would like this twenty-dollar bill?" by Cassan Said Amer. Aeric Winter made me choose my favourite part of Paul Coelho's book "Like the flowing River" and this is it.

Apr 16, 2008 - unless someone rips more than 50% from you....

revilomat Says:

Apr 16, 2008 - Not beeing valued from the people around you not as much as like e.g. a rich bank manager, can be just part of the bad treatment. You need to know *yourself* that you are 'worthy', even if others don't think so. I think if you can get that (hard) lesson into your system, you can also value anyone else apart from e.g. their profession. I'm still working on it...

GaeriSummer Says:

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 16, 2008 - If you've still got the other half, the worth is still the same. And if you don't, then I guess you'd be dead and I'm not really philosophical enough to judge our value, then. *g*

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 16, 2008 - I think most of us are, revilomat.

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 16, 2008 - Well, I like all the security stuff they've got, like the watermark, hologram, and inlaid string. And the fact the they have different colours depending on their value. I think it's kinda easy to mix up dollar bills, except the twenty with the large face. Other than that, I really like the U.S. dollar as a note. It's made from cloth, not paper and that gives it a different tactile feel than most other currencies.

Baabzi Says:

Apr 17, 2008 - Yeah I'm not saying that I think anyone's worth more than others. (Just to get that straight.) And I'm sure most people would say that they didn't care. But deep inside I think more people than not do in fact value people by such means! The same with racism. Sure, all of them say "Right on, black people in our country", but I wanna see the look on their faces when their daughter starts to date a black guy... or a punk... or a Turk... and so on and so forth.

Baabzi Says:

Apr 17, 2008 - And I think (although I'm not sure of that yet) that something is only worth the value that people assign to it. Like money, if the whole world wouldn't adore it, it would be just a dirty slip of paper. So here I am, young and confused. The only reason we've found in my religion classes at school was God, to give us all the same value, but I'm not totally ok with that explanation, what about people who don't believe in Him and so on...

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 17, 2008 - I don't care for those people. Should my sister start dating a black guy or a punk or a Turk, it's all the same to me. (Though I hope he knows what he's gotten himself into.) I'll tell you one more thing, Baabzi. Most people are prejudiced. You learn to live with it.

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 17, 2008 - In my eyes, a person's worth is independent of religion. (Maybe you covered this in philosophy?) To me, every person has an immortal soul. And it is this, which gives them an immeasurable worth. Where does this value come from? Well, my assumption is... Ah screw this, I'll make a video. *turns on webcam*

Baabzi Says:

Apr 18, 2008 - I know they are, that's what I was trying to say. You can SAY every person has got the same value and it's perfectly possible that you personally (!) think it's like that. But I'm doubting that all of us think that way. And not only the "western" civilization, I even know a couple that has to stay secret because her Indian (or whatever) family won't have her dating a white guy. So you need a rule that applies to everyone to give everybody the same value. Looking forward to your video :)

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 20, 2008 - YouTube won't let me upload it. *Schmoll*

Apr 22, 2008 - where does this paul coelho mania come from? suddenly everyone seems to be reading his books. great story though ;) i know only one of his stories, its the one about a king and the "poisoned well of insanity" .. it captures a fundamental principle of humans and society. the fact its written in a fairy tale setting is a huge drawback though imo, cause it distracts from the application in real life. your story didnt, thats a plus. :)

NarsinhaTube Says:

Apr 28, 2008 - I watched your 'Measure of a Man'-Video before I saw this one. And this is exactly the story that first came to my mind when you were talking about the worth of a person! Now I'm kind of glad that I was too lazy to immediately post a comment on the other one only repeating this...

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 29, 2008 - Ah, the world is full of coincidences. Or is it?

GaeriSummer Says:

Apr 29, 2008 - I wish I knew. I just came across his name in a discussion about "The Witch of Portobello". I was intrigued by the concept, so I picked up one of his books. Still not too sure about him and his warrior of light stuff, though.

NarsinhaTube Says:

Apr 29, 2008 - Or you could just say 'Zwei Dumme, ein Gedanke.' Oo

odsantos Says:

Apr 30, 2008 - yeh i really didn't want that money after you'd shouted at it, so i guess that makes me a bad person :)

May 29, 2008 - You are fibbing, fibbing, fibbing.

Aug 4, 2008 - I love the moral behind this story - I have like many others been in situations where I feel quite worthless and I think this has actually helped me quite a lot! Thanks a lot for sharing this video. Everyone seems to be saying that it's not the same with humans because some people are prejudice - but that's just people afraid of differences. Not everyone's like that - and just because some people's opinions are that others are worth less - that doesn't mean it's true. Well done - well told!
