Just to see what its like I installed XP Pro SP3 on my SSD Aspire One. It performs ok, but there seems to be the occasional freeze now and again.

Jul 28, 2008 - mate ive got the linex one witch is shit!! but how u install xp and how much is it?

securityactive Says:

Jul 28, 2008 - This is the Linux version, I just created a slip stream version using NLite of Windows XP Pro SP3 and installed it using an external USB CD Drive, just to see how XP ran on the SSD. Personally I bought this to run Linux on, so I have no problems with it, but I will probably change from the Linen OS to Ubuntu Remix once its released.

Aug 4, 2008 - did u use the official xp drivers from acer for this? how's the booting time? i read a lot of blogs that said...boot up with xp takes around 2 minutes?

securityactive Says:

Aug 4, 2008 - Yes I used the official XP Drivers, and had no issues with any of the devices. As you can see in the video, boot time is just under 2 mins before it can be used. I think this is linked to XP using more resources, and SSD related issues.

Aug 12, 2008 - If you plan to use Xp on the ssd disk you have to format it as fat32. Not ntfs. Ntfs freezes and is really slow on it... I have full xp with sp3 installed on a fat32 file system and it is ready to use after 35 secounds of booting up.

Aug 12, 2008 - This was formatted FAT32, XP SP3 with Acer Drivers.

Aug 17, 2008 - I dont know if anyone asked yet... I know the linux version can use the left SSD Slot as an expansion (Kind of like JBOD RAID) can windows do the same? Just wanted to know... I have an eee 4g running xp mediacenter and have about 1.5gb left, so an 8gb acer wouldn't be a real problem space wise, just wondering... THX 4 any help.
