Re(PER)curso is a mixed reality performance in which a human dancer and a percussionist interact and communicate with a virtual performer. Re(PER)curso has come into being through the collaboration between Paul Verschure and the members of his laboratory Synthetic Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems (SPECS) of the Audiovisual Institute of Barcelona and Jonatas Manzolli from the Nucleus of Sound Communication, University of Campinas (Brazil). In re(PER)curso, a synthetic character performs in a virtual space, perceives the physical world and reacts to it. The physical actors generate successive actions and with them they explain in the physical world what is happening in the virtual world. The synthetic character observes and assimilates the semantics of reality and establishes a continual semiotic cycle between the virtual and the real.
