LMS Black 5 number 45407 pilots BR 50015 Valliant on the 12:05 Bury Bolton Street to Heywood. The black 5 would be detached from there, to make it's own way to Castleton, and onto the main line.

Jul 2, 2008 - Okay... 45407 was obviously prepared to go out onto the mainline, so on the 12:05 to Heywood, she piloted 50015. Then from Heywood, she made her own way to Castleton and onto the Rochdale line. This wasn't the only invasion of steam at an all diesel gala; check out the video this was responding to. To be honest, if I could, I would try and get the early morning direct St. Helens-Manchester Victoria service, as Dave Holden could get it in Huyton, Stephen and Nick from Prescot and me from Thatto Heath. We'd go direct that way. On Sunday I will be getting the earliest possible train. Do you know the full locos running on both Sat and Sun? Its just the East Lancs website it just posts 'Diesel', not the traction!

Jul 2, 2008 - Ah, yes thanks! By the way, 40145 tour to Skeggy got cancelled this week, so as soon as I get my money back I will try and book a seat on the Allo Alloa overnight tour. Class 56 from Crewe at five to midnight and takes you to Edinburgh, Alloa and Glasgow via York, should be a good tour despite the darkness!

Jul 2, 2008 - If they were detatching the Steam loco at the mainline, then that coach would be the steam engines support coach, which has to go with it. It means that they can both be pulled off the front of the 50, saving on faffing about
